Cortina d’Ampezzo: A Taste of the Dolomites
Located about two hours from Treviso by car, Cortina d’Ampezzo offers one of the easiest ways to experience the magic of the Dolomites without committing to a full mountain holiday.
Often called the “Queen of the Dolomites,” Cortina is surrounded by dramatic peaks that seem to rise directly above the town. Even before you arrive, the drive itself becomes part of the experience. The mountains grow taller with every kilometre, until suddenly you’re surrounded by some of Italy’s most breathtaking scenery.
You Don’t Have to Ski to Love Cortina
Of course, Cortina is one of Europe’s most famous ski resorts.
During winter, you’ll immediately notice the atmosphere. People walk through town carrying skis, cafés fill with families returning from the slopes, and the entire town has that unmistakable alpine energy.
There’s something wonderful about it, even if you’ve never put on a pair of skis.
You don’t need to ski to enjoy Cortina. Simply being there is an experience in itself.
A Town Made for Strolling
One of our favourite things to do is simply walk through the centre. Elegant boutiques sit next to traditional mountain shops. Luxury brands share the streets with family-owned bakeries, pastry shops and cosy cafés.
Take your time. Order a hot chocolate. Enjoy an espresso on a sunny terrace. Browse the local shops. Then look up.
Wherever you are in Cortina, the mountains are always there. Towering above the rooftops. Changing colour with the light. Reminding you that you’re in one of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the world.
A Different Side of Italy
Many travellers associate Italy with cities, beaches and vineyards.
The Dolomites tell a completely different story. Fresh mountain air. Wooden chalets. Snow-covered peaks in winter. Green alpine meadows in summer. It’s still Italy—but it feels wonderfully different.

Our recommendation: Even if you don’t ski, spend a day in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Walk through the town, enjoy lunch with a mountain view, stop for coffee and simply take in the scenery. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to understand why so many people return to the Dolomites year after year.
